HäT 8080 Russian heavy weapons of the First World War is a set of plastic figures in 1:72 with one hundred parts - mortars, a machine gun and their crews.
Responsibility details are not available.
This HäT figure set in 1:72 scale rounds out the ordinary infantry sets with what they usually lack: support weapons and their crews. The box holds one hundred parts and contains a 47 mm mortar with its crew, a 58 mm trench mortar with its crew and a Maxim machine gun with its crew. On top of that the set holds an officer, an NCO, an observer and a signaler with a field telephone.
The Russian army entered the war without enough trench weapons and had to make up the shortfall quickly. Alongside the Maxim machine gun, which was moved on a low wheeled mount and became typical of the Russian infantry, improvised as well as licensed mortars for lobbing grenades into the opposite trench were added. The observer and the telephone operator in the set are a reminder that fighting in the trenches was carried on just as much by eye and by wire as by fire.
The mortars and the machine gun have small parts, so have tweezers ready and work over a mat from which a dropped piece can be picked up. Wash the figures before painting and let them dry. The crews will show best if you place them on a shared base at a natural spacing around the weapon and unify them with the same shade of uniform; the metal parts of the weapons then only need darkening and a gentle polish along the edge.
The figures are supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and a work mat are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
