A set of figures of German mounted infantry of the Second World War in 1:72 scale. The horse was no relic in the German army: it hauled artillery and supplies, and in some units it also carried infantry, which got with it to places the vehicles did not reach. The figures are supplied unpainted.
The notion of a fully motorized German army is one of the most widespread misunderstandings about the Second World War. In reality most infantry divisions relied on horses throughout the fighting, and mounted units were used for reconnaissance, for patrolling in the rear and for combat in terrain the vehicles did not get through. The Eastern Front, with its mud and snow, reinforced that role rather than the opposite.
Paint the horses and the riders separately and join them only at the end. The coat of a horse is conveyed well by a base color with a darker shadow in the hollows between the muscles, and the mane and tail can take a different shade. Bring the harness out with a thin line. Dry-fit the figures in the saddle beforehand, so that their legs sit along the body of the horse and no gap appears. Fill any seam with putty before painting.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
