90mm Skulls is a set of cast human skulls for large figures and vignette scenes. It is an accessory to figure work, not a figure in itself.
Responsibility details are not available.
Skulls cast in polyurethane resin belong among the small props that can give a whole vignette an oppressive mood. The 90 mm figure says how tall the figures are that they are cut to in proportion: that is how the Italian manufacturer Royal Model designates the size of a figure, so it is not a ratio scale. The castings are separate and are joined to a scene only as it is being finished.
Most often they end up at the foot of a wall, in a breached cellar, on the floor of a trench or in the sand of a desert scene. They also work well in display cases with an allegorical undertone, where a skull carries the old motif of transience. Because they are loose, you can play with them: turning one a little and partly sinking it into the groundwork gives the impression that it has been lying there a long time.
First treat the surface with a filler primer, otherwise the shades hold poorly on smooth resin. Bone is not white; it comes out better from a muted ocher or grayish mixture into which a dark glaze coat is then worked. That runs into the eye sockets, the nasal opening and between the teeth and creates depth. A dry brush with a lighter tone finally picks out the cheekbones and the crown. Cyanoacrylate glue takes care of attaching them.
The set is supplied unpainted and without a base. Paints, filler primer and glue are not included in it.
