Camouflage Gray 17 ml - Vallejo, Model Air line

A camouflage gray from Vallejo - a water-thinnable acrylic in a matte finish, in a 17 ml dropper bottle. It belongs to the Model Air line: the pigments are finely ground and the paint comes from the factory thinned so that it can be sprayed straight from the bottle. The thick Model Color line, by contrast, is meant for a brush and has to be thinned before airbrushing - mixing the two lines up ends in a clogged nozzle. This is a modeling paint, not a kit.

What the color represents

It is a neutral camouflage gray intended for large camouflage areas. The manufacturer offers it as a general camouflage shade without tying it on the product to one particular army or period - so take it as a universal gray to use wherever the instructions or the color scheme call for gray. It works on the upper and lower surfaces of aircraft, on two-tone and mottled schemes and on vehicles and naval gray.

Use

• Shake the bottle thoroughly before use - the pigment settles to the bottom.
• It is sprayed straight from the dropper bottle at a pressure of about 0.5-1 bar; if needed it can be thinned with water or with airbrush thinner of the same brand.
• Gray covers well - over a light base two thin coats are usually enough; spray large areas with overlapping passes so that no stripes appear.
• An ideal paint for modulation: brighten it with a drop of white toward the centers of panels, darken it with a drop of black or dark gray into the shadows.
• Spray mottling and transitions freehand at lower pressure, and sharp boundaries over masking tape or a raised mask.
• Overcoat with gloss varnish before decals, then bring back the matte varnish at the end and add weathering (washes, filters, pigments).
