Coarser stone talus in a warm buff tone. A bag of 353 cm3 for scree below rocks, embankments and road edges.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Buff shade holds a warm sandy tone of the kind that weathered limestone or sun-parched sandstone has. The Coarse grade sits in the middle of the four-step range: the fragments already read as individual stones, but they have not grown into boulders. It is at this size that a talus cone running down below a rock face, or the crumbled edge of a mountain road, looks convincing.
Free scattering gives the most convincing result. The area is coated with thinned white glue, the talus is let go from a spoon at the top and allowed to slide down the slope. It sorts itself by the weight of the grains, which is exactly what erosion does on a real bluff. Stones laid out by hand, against that, always give the human hand away.
The package holds 353 cm3 of material, which on a half-meter bluff is enough for several layers laid on one after another. A light base takes later coloring, so a drop of brown or gray glaze turns one bag into two distinctly different kinds of stone. Suitable uses:
The buff tone has one treacherous quality: under the harsh lighting of a layout or under photographic lights it lights up so much that it looks like spilled flour. A thin wash in a brown-gray shade cures that, running into the gaps between the grains and giving the area its depth back. The tops of the stones stay light, the hollows darken, and the talus suddenly gains the volume it had been missing in a photograph.
