Behind the name Dark Yellow lies RAL 7028 Dunkelgelb — the dark yellow that the manufacturer states directly for this shade. It is the base shade of German armored vehicles from 1943: vehicles left the factories in uniform Dunkelgelb, and the green and brown patches were sprayed over it only at the units, often improvised and with large differences from one machine to another. Vallejo carries the paint in the Model Air line, that is, as a water-thinnable matte acrylic mixed specifically for the airbrush, which in most cases is sprayed straight from the dropper bottle. The package holds one bottle of 17 ml. It is a modeling paint, not a kit.
This shade is darker and covers better than pure yellows, but yellow pigment still has weaker opacity — it struggles to work through a black or dark base. So spray a light gray or white base, at least in the places where you want to lighten the area, and apply the paint in thin, well-dried coats. Dunkelgelb rewards modulation: a few drops of white are enough to lighten it and spray over the centers of the panels, so that a large hull does not look flat. Shake the bottle thoroughly before use.
For builders of German vehicles of the Second World War, for whom Dunkelgelb is the starting point of every camouflage scheme. An airbrush is the clear choice with this paint — large hull areas cannot be covered evenly with a brush.
When spraying, ensure sufficient ventilation and protect your airways. Keep out of reach of children.
