Sharp-edged gray pieces in the coarsest grade. A volume of 353 cm3 for blasted rock, breakwaters and stone pitching.
Responsibility details are not available.
When a cutting is driven through rock or a quarry is worked, pieces with sharp edges and fresh fracture faces are left after the blasting. That is exactly what this material looks like: the largest size in the range in a cool gray, which water erosion has not yet had time to wear into rounded shapes.
A scattered layer works as heavy stone protection. Modelers use it on breakwaters and bank revetments, where the size of the stone tells how strong a flow it is to withstand, and on the footings of embankments along water. In a military diorama it stands in for a collapsed wall or a stone barricade.
The package offers 353 cm3 of material. With pieces this large it pays to lay a few stones with tweezers first, where you want the eye to find them, and only then to scatter the rest loose. Never leave the gaps between the pieces empty, otherwise the base shows through. Where it is used:
At a water surface, stone protection falls into three horizontal bands. Lowest lies the permanently submerged part, dark and overgrown with algae, above it is the fluctuating zone with a light calcareous coating and at the top dry stone in its original color. Bringing these bands out is an inconspicuous detail that a viewer does not consciously notice, but without it a whole water scene lacks credibility.
