Medium Green - 4/pkg

Four deciduous trees for a group planting

Woodland Scenics makes finished trees meant to be planted straight away. The armature is already covered with foliage and the tree can be planted right out of the box, which does away with the most laborious part of building a wood. The package holds four pieces with crowns in a medium green tone and a height between 5.08 and 7.62 cm.

What the smaller size is good for

Lower trees play a different part in a composition than massive specimens. They are planted in groups, in the second plane and toward the edge of the base, where they create the impression of unbroken growth without stealing attention from the main scene. The four in one package are enough for a small grove or for a stretch of trees along a road.

Planting and your own changes

Trees of this range have a pin at the foot of the trunk and a removable base, so they can first simply be stood about while you look for a composition, and only then glued permanently into a drilled hole. The crown will take reworking: by spreading the branches carefully to the sides the silhouette loosens and four identical trees stop reading as four from one mold. You break the uniformity of color by scattering finer foliage in a different tone into sprayed glue. The trunk deserves a dark wash and a light dry brush, because out of the factory it tends to be one color and in close-up that shows. The foot of the tree should be dressed with soil and low growth, or it looks like a peg driven into the ground. For a larger wooded area it pays to buy two packages and to sink some of the trunks deeper, so that different levels of height arise. Real growth never has its crowns level, and it is precisely that irregularity that makes a wood a wood.
