Eight shades for German aircraft of the middle phase of the Second World War: the upper gray, the green-black, two blue undersurface colors and complementary tones for details.
Responsibility details are not available.
German machines around 1941 to 1943 left behind the dark green-black areas of the start of the war and went over to a combination of gray-green, gray-violet and light blue. It is exactly this change that the set covers, including the older tones, which still held on for a while on transitional machines and on the undersurfaces.
It most often comes into play with single-engine fighters and with twin-engine bombers of the same period, where the upper surfaces are divided into broken fields and the underside stays light. On later machines it serves as a base on which local departures are then fine-tuned, because field repairs often mixed the shades themselves.
The blue undersurface color is worth applying in two thin coats, as otherwise the base shows through it. The transition between the upper and the lower surface was soft and sprayed freehand on a number of machines and sharp as if drawn with a ruler on others, so comparison with a period photograph decides more than any general rule.
The dark tone following on from the older scheme will serve outside the camouflage proper as well, for instance on the anti-glare panel in front of the cockpit or on the faces of the propeller blades. The light gray in turn covers the wheel coverings and the insides of the doors. The package carries the paints only; there is no model, thinner or decals in it.
