The light sand brown from the American camouflage for Southeast Asia carries the designation Mr. Color FS30219 brown. A 10 ml package, a lacquer paint for spraying with a gun.
Responsibility details are not available.
The light brown tone tuned toward sand makes up one of the three fields of the camouflage the US Air Force introduced for deployment in Southeast Asia. Two greens complete it, while the lower surfaces stayed light. Phantoms, Thunderchiefs, Hercules transports and the observation and attack machines of the same theater flew in this finish, and the scheme outlived the end of the conflict by a long way.
On the real aircraft the fields were sprayed using templates, so the edges are fairly sharp, but not perfectly so. On a model this character is imitated with masking putty or with tape lifted above the surface by a thin strip, which creates a very narrow soft transition. Choose the order of the colors from the lightest to the darkest.
The bottle holds ten milliliters of a solvent-based paint. Fast drying is an advantage on multi-color camouflage, because you can mask the next field shortly after spraying the previous one and the job does not take the whole weekend.
The paint belongs in an airbrush. Thin it with the products of the same brand in a ratio the supplier gives as between one part thinner to one part paint and half that dose. Anyone who wants to apply it with a brush has to add a retarder, otherwise the stroke dries before it can level with its surroundings.
On the real machines the light brown faded quickly and dark traces spread from the exhausts and the guns. This is imitated with a thin layer of a lightened tone in the middle of the large fields and with a brown wash in the panel lines. Mind the degree, as overdone aging breaks the camouflage up and the machine then looks like a wreck.
