A light neutral gray for the undersides of aircraft, landing gear bays and airfield ground equipment. Ten milliliters, a lacquer formulation for the airbrush.
Responsibility details are not available.
A light neutral gray tone has no pronounced warm or cool undertone, and that is exactly why it suits so many places at once. It covers the undersides of aircraft, the interiors of landing gear bays, the finishes of trainers and airliners, and on top of that the carts, tugs and steps that stand around an aircraft on the apron. Where pure white would look unnatural and a dark gray dirty, this shade sits exactly in the middle.
Light grays generally cover less well, because they do not hold much saturated pigment; so expect the surface underneath to show through for longer than with dark colors. It pays to spray over a uniform base, ideally a light primer, otherwise the differences between plastic, filler and sanded areas will carry through into the final coat. Thinner for lacquer paints is essential here; water-based versions damage this series and leave a grain on the surface.
A gray of this kind is a rewarding base for mixing. A drop in a more saturated color immediately lowers its intensity, which is useful when simulating fading from the sun and when lightening a shade for smaller scales, where a finish should look lighter than in reality. It also serves as a neutral surface for testing washes on a piece of scrap plastic, because on it you see the real color and density of the wash you have applied. For the same reason it proves useful as a reference surface when setting up a new nozzle: on a light surface you see immediately whether the paint is spraying evenly or spitting.
