Mr. Paper Card Sandpaper, 400 grit (Gunze)

Sandpaper from the Japanese manufacturer Gunze in a card format, in 400 grit. This is the universal medium grit you will probably spend the most time with while building a model: it follows on from coarser sanding, levels the scratches left by it and prepares the surface for filler or filler primer. The card format keeps its shape, works well between the fingers and does not crumple the way a loose sheet does. The dimensions, the number of sheets in the package and whether it suits wet sanding are stated on the box.

Use

• Bring 400 grit in after coarser sanding, to remove the scratches that were left behind.
• Sand in thin passes and keep checking the surface against the light, because it is the reflection that reveals the remaining unevenness.
• Sand a filled joint only after the filler has fully cured, otherwise the filler tears out.
• Clean the dust off the surface before the primer goes on, ideally with a damp cloth, and let it dry.
• On convex surfaces back the sandpaper with a finger, and on flat ones with a hard backing.

Who it is for

For anyone who builds plastic models and wants a really smooth surface under the paint. The medium grit is the most used one and it is worth buying a larger stock of it. For the whole sanding sequence, add the coarser and finer versions; the same line comes in grits from 240 to 1000.

Do not inhale the sanding dust and work in a ventilated space; on larger areas a respirator is useful. Keep the sandpaper dry.
