The set represents the 30 mm add-on front armor with a modeled weld seam, of the kind that was welded onto the front of the German StuG III Ausf. F and StuH III Ausf. E/F assault guns to improve their protection. This is variant 1, pattern 1, one particular shape of the seam and the plate, different from pattern 2.
The StuG III and its howitzer variant, the StuH 42, were among the most widely used German assault guns of the Second World War. The added front armor plates were meant to improve the resistance of the front of the hull to anti-tank fire.
