A masking set for the model of the Bf 109G-5/G-6 in 1:24 scale, for the canopy version known as the Galland Haube. Made for Airfix kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Messerschmitt Bf 109 of the G series is the most numerous version of the German fighter aircraft of the Second World War. The G-5 differs from the G-6 above all in its pressurized cabin; otherwise the two are very close. Some of the machines received a later canopy with reduced framing, which markedly improved the pilots' view and for which the name Galland Haube took hold.
Masking elements for a model in 1:24 scale, cut for exactly this type of canopy and for Airfix kits. In a large scale, masking a canopy is rewarding work: the frames are wide, the glazing large, and hand-cut tape would never hold the same width along long straight edges. The exact range of elements is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Wash the canopy before gluing and let it dry completely, as a mask slides on a greasy clear part. Lay the elements down with tweezers and press them along the whole length of the edge; only then start spraying. Apply the paint thinly and in two passes, so that no ridge forms at the edge of the mask. Lift the mask as soon as the paint has flashed off, and pull it away at an angle rather than straight up. It is usual to spray the frames first in the interior color and only then in the exterior shade, so that the covering coat does not show through from inside.
For modelers who build the Bf 109 in 1:24 scale in the version with the later canopy and want crisp frames without hand cutting. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
