About product

Sky Blue, not Sky

The shade listed under the name Sky Blue belongs to the British aviation palette and is a genuine light blue. That sets it apart from the color Sky, which sounds similar but is pale toward green-gray; mixing these two shades up is one of the most common painting mistakes on British aircraft. Sky Blue is aimed at places where an aircraft was to have a blue finish underneath, that is at the undersides of the fuselage and wings, at the undersides of the flaps and at places where the transition to the upper camouflage is to stay inconspicuous.

A paint from the Red Line range

The bottle holds ten milliliters, that is an amount that covers the undersides of an ordinary aircraft model and still leaves a reserve for touching up after the masks come off. The shade is part of the Red Line range. This manufacturer runs several lines alongside each other and they differ in composition, so choose the thinner, the thinning ratio and the way of cleaning the tools according to the data the manufacturer gives for this range, and do not carry over the procedure from another line.

How to work with the paint

Stir the contents of the bottle thoroughly before work, the pigment settles at the bottom. Light shades cover worse than dark ones and at the same time take on the tone of what is underneath, so lay them over a unified base and rather in several thin coats. Let each coat become tacky, otherwise the paint will gather into patches. Wash the tools right after work, dried paint is considerably harder to remove.

Who it is for

For builders of British aircraft models who want the shade ready-made instead of mixing it by guesswork. What is supplied is the paint. The model, thinner, varnish and tools are not supplied, unless stated otherwise.
