A set of figures of British light dragoons of the Napoleonic Wars in the 28 millimeter size, aimed at the years 1808 to 1815.
Responsibility details are not available.
The light dragoons were the light cavalry of the British army. They did not serve for a frontal blow like the heavy regiments, but for reconnaissance, for covering marching columns, for forward pickets and for pursuing a retreating enemy. The years 1808 to 1815, which the set aims at, cover the later part of the Napoleonic Wars, that is the time when British cavalry was operating on several battlefields at once and its equipment went through a number of changes.
The figure of 28 millimeters is an established size for tabletop wargames and is given as the height of the figure, not as a reduction ratio. It corresponds approximately to 1:56 scale, so the figures suit buildings, terrain and vehicles built to this standard. For a collector's display case it is a size in which it is still worth painting faces and buttons, and yet a whole unit fits into a small area.
A procedure from a dark base toward the light works well: a base coat, a dark cast into the folds and shadows, then lightening of the edges and raised surfaces. The leather of the harness and straps takes a different sheen from the cloth of the coat, which lends a figure depth. The cut of the uniform and the accessories of the British light cavalry changed over these years and differed between regiments as well, so compare the appearance with a pictorial source before you reach for the paint.
The package contains the set of figures stated. Paints, brushes, glue and bases are not included, unless stated otherwise.
