Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the Tiger Ausf. B (King Tiger) heavy tank in 1:35 scale from RYE FIELD MODEL, the brand that made its name with exactly this, full interiors. The kit contains the complete inside of the tank, clear parts, photo-etched parts, 3D-printed parts and decals.
To be honest: a full interior means you are effectively building two models in one. First the engine, the transmission, the fighting compartment and the ammunition stowage, and only then the tank itself. That is a strong selling point and a serious demand on your time. And this is exactly where the clear version makes sense: thanks to the transparent hull and turret parts all that work is genuinely visible once it is finished. You do not have to cut the tank open or leave the hatches permanently open; the interior shows through. It is a striking showcase solution that turns the model into a technical exhibit rather than a classic diorama piece.
The Tiger Ausf. B, called Königstiger by German soldiers and King Tiger by the Allies, was the heaviest German tank in series service in the Second World War. It combined heavily sloped frontal armor derived from the Panther with the long-barreled 88 mm KwK 43 gun, which could destroy Allied tanks at ranges from which they could not reply. That superiority came at a price: the enormous weight, the thirsty engine, the unreliable drivetrain and the limited mobility meant that many machines were lost to breakdowns or to a lack of fuel rather than in combat. It was committed from the summer of 1944 on both the Western and the Eastern Front, and only a few hundred were built.
Plan from the back forward. On a kit with a full interior the painting order is crucial — finish and paint the inside completely before you start closing up the hull. Work out in advance what is meant to be seen: on the clear version practically everything shows through, so it pays to do honest work even in places you would skimp on in an ordinary kit. The transparent parts call for special care — they are more brittle, they are better worked slowly, and fingerprints and dried glue stay visible on them. Use a glue intended for clear parts (ordinary thin cement for plastic can fog a transparent surface) and mask the areas that are meant to stay transparent. Paint the interior with an airbrush section by section and finish the details with a brush. On the outside use washes in the welds and hollows and pigments for mud and dust effects around the running gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
