A short-run injection-molded kit of the American Bell P-400 Airacobra fighter in 1:72 scale from RS Models. Short-run molds have a finely engraved surface but call for a more careful approach: it is worth dry-fitting the parts before gluing, cleaning up the sprue gates and, where needed, drilling out the locating holes.
The P-400 was the export version of the P-39 Airacobra fighter with an unusual layout: the engine sat behind the pilot and drove the propeller through a long shaft, and the cockpit was entered through automobile-style doors. The P-400 version was originally ordered for Great Britain and carried a 20 mm weapon instead of the large-caliber cannon. The British turned it down and the machines were taken over by the US Army Air Forces and by the Soviet Union; they were used among other places in the South Pacific over Guadalcanal and New Guinea.
Pay attention to the cockpit and its equipment, which is detailed on this kit. Glue the parts with thin cement for plastic, sand down any unevenness along the parting line and lay down a primer before painting. Apply the camouflage schemes with an airbrush and settle the decals onto gloss varnish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
