Replacement T-66 tracks in the all-steel version for a model of the Sherman tank with HVSS suspension, 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
Late Shermans received, in place of the older suspension with vertical springs, the so-called HVSS suspension with horizontally mounted springs and dual road wheels. With it came markedly wider tracks as well, which lowered the ground pressure and improved the behavior of the vehicle in mud and in snow. One of the variants for this suspension was the all-steel T-66 track, that is a version with no rubber blocks, with a purely metal surface on the contact face.
The set brings replacement T-66 tracks for a model of the Sherman with HVSS suspension in 1:35 scale. It replaces the simplified tracks from a kit and allows the shape of the run of the track and the pattern of the track tread to be captured more faithfully. The method of assembly and the extent of the package are described in the manufacturer's instructions supplied with it.
Try the tracks dry and fit them only once the running gear is finished. Compare the sag of the upper run of the track with a photograph of the real vehicle, as it looks different on each type of suspension. Wash the tracks in lukewarm soapy water before painting and let them dry. Choose a dark base, apply an earth shade over it and finally polish the edges of the raised parts gently with graphite or a metallic pigment, so that the areas burnished by running come out. A dry brush with a steel shade on the contact faces does the rest.
The set will be appreciated by builders of late Shermans who are bothered by the simplified tracks from a kit. The model, paints and glue are not part of the package, unless stated otherwise.
