Tamiya Sanding Cloth, 2000 grit is the finest of the three sanding cloths 1000 / 1500 / 2000 — a flexible sheet 170 x 130 mm for dry and wet sanding. It serves for the final smoothing of a surface before spraying and for sanding between coats of clear.

A fine sanding cloth from Tamiya in 2000 grit, a sheet of 170 x 130 mm. It is not a kit but a tool and consumable abrasive for finishing a surface. The fabric backing means it is flexible and follows curved surfaces without trouble, where stiff sandpaper works badly; it does not crease or crack when folded, so there is no risk of a fold pressing a scratch into the surface. It can be used dry as well as wet.
In sanding the rule is that a higher number means a finer grit and you work from coarser to finer. Of the three, 2000 is the finest and comes last: it follows 1500 (which in turn follows the coarser 1000) and removes the last fine scratches that would show under the paint. That is exactly why a surface is finally smoothed with it before spraying — above all where gloss paint or a metallic is coming, because under those absolutely every scratch shows through. On its own, though, it will not remove coarse scratches; it is the end of the sequence, not a shortcut through it.
For modelers who are after a perfect surface — glossy car bodies, chrome, metallics, polished clear coats. It makes sense as the end of the trio: first 1000, then 1500 and finally this 2000.
A tool and consumable, not a kit. Dust from plastic, filler and clear coat is harmful to health — do not inhale it; we recommend sanding wet, or otherwise with airway protection and with ventilation.
