The base of a gaming figure tends to be the last thing to be finished, and yet it decides whether the figure stands somewhere in particular or just on a gray disc. The set of the AK Basing Bits line offers accessory elements on a science fiction theme with which a base or a small scene can be completed with a technical detail and the figure thus set into a futuristic setting.
First decide what the scene is to say and only then choose. One well-placed element at the foot of a figure does more than four arranged all around. Lay them out dry, try their angles and watch that they do not overgrow the figure or hide its legs. Free space on a base is not a mistake; it gives the figure room.
Use super glue to bond them, as it holds even on dissimilar materials. Before painting, wash, degrease and prime the elements. A technical look comes about quickly: a dark base, a dark wash into the engraving and the cracks, edges brightened with drybrushing and only a few color accents on the controls. Restrained chipping of the metal edges and flat areas with one glossier detail look more credible than gloss over the whole surface. Choose the colors so that they repeat on the figure and on the accessories; the scene then holds together.
