A resin display base with the surface of a runway in 1:72 scale from the Russian brand Temp Models. It is not an aircraft model but a surface on which you stand a finished model. The resin print captures the texture of the surface as well as the painted markings, so the base looks like a cut-out of a real runway rather than a neutral board.
A runway is a continuous paved surface with painted markings that show the pilot the centerline and the threshold stripes. The surface is worn by tires, by rubber shed during touchdown and by operating fluids, so it is far from uniformly gray. For a model it is a rewarding setting: the runway gives it scale and at the same time suggests the moment before takeoff or after landing.
Release the base from the print supports and sand the underside flat so that it does not rock. Wash the resin in lukewarm soapy water before painting. Break the surface up with several close shades of gray, spray the markings through a mask and darken the rubber marks along the centerline. Dry pigment gives the surface its roughness.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
