This gift set from Revell holds two plastic kits of the ocean liner R.M.S. Titanic in two different scales — the larger one in 1:700 and the smaller one in 1:1200. Unlike ordinary kits the set is conceived as a starter package, so it also holds the basic paints, glue and a brush and you can get down to building without any further purchase. The exact number of parts of both models is given in the instructions enclosed in the package.
At the time she was completed, R.M.S. Titanic was one of the largest and most luxurious ocean liners in the world. On her maiden voyage across the Atlantic in April 1912 she struck an iceberg and sank, which cost an enormous number of lives. Her silhouette with four funnels became one of the best-known images in the history of shipping.
The parts are injection-molded from plastic; glue them with the enclosed cement, or with thin cement for plastic. The smaller 1:1200 scale suits a quicker build, while the larger 1:700 offers more detail. Paint the hull in the black, white and ocher scheme of the liner, pick out the funnels, and fine washes will help bring out the deck details. For a firm display use the enclosed stand, or a separate one.
Besides both kits, this gift set also holds the basic paints, glue and a brush. A more advanced modeler may reach for their own higher-quality paints and tools.
