A gray tone with a purple undertone from the Model Color line. It suits places where a shadow is to stay cold and is not to slip into brown.

Every modeler has a shelf full of gray shades, but most of them have a little ocher or brown mixed into them. This one goes the other way: it carries a purple undertone, and for that reason it looks cold even under the warm light of a lamp. That is precisely why it is used differently from a neutral gray, not as an area but as a tool for modeling.
It comes in after the base coat has been sprayed, when a model has one color and looks flat. The shadow areas, the undersides of armor plates, the corner under a fender, a recess in an airframe panel, are darkened by a step with it without the original chroma being lost. On aircraft it serves well for shading light undersurfaces and for suggesting stains on metal. On figures it proves itself in gray urban buildings, on the stones of a base and on faded asphalt.
The best result comes together with a clean medium gray, which this shade can cool down step by step, and with a very dark blue-gray for the deepest places. The transitions can be handled wet, straight on the model, because the paints of one acrylic family accept one another without a curdled edge. It is applied with a brush; for large areas it is thinned and blended out.
