A wet palette for mixing acrylic paints. It keeps the paint supple throughout the work, and with the lid closed between individual sittings as well.

Acrylic paint dries on an ordinary plastic palette faster than you can spread it. Because of that a modeler keeps mixing a shade over again, and the deviation shows up above all on figures, where graded tones are worked with. A wet palette solves the problem simply: beneath the working surface there is a reserve of water that holds the paint supple from below. A shade thus stays usable for a whole afternoon and under a closed lid will survive a break until the next day.
An absorbent insert soaked with water lies in the tray, and on it a permeable paper on which the paint is mixed. The water passes through the paper from below upward and replaces what evaporates out of the paint. That is exactly why fine transitions and glazes are good to work with on a wet palette: the paint is thinned step by step and does not dry at the edge of the drop. The mixed shades stay separate on the paper, so you can lay a whole scale out side by side and come back to it.
Soak the insert with water and pour the surplus out; on too wet a base the paint thins itself and loses its covering. Smooth the paper down so that no air bubble is left beneath it. During the work close the palette while you step away from it to the model. When the work is finished, rinse the insert out and let it dry through, or mildew and a smell will settle in it. The paper is changed as soon as it bleeds or tears. The palette is intended for water-thinnable paints; oil and enamel paints make no sense on it.
Paints, brushes and a model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
