Vallejo Model Air Wood 17 ml

Wood is a brown shade from the Model Air range by Vallejo, intended for imitating wood on models. This is a modeling paint, not a kit. Model Air is a water-thinnable acrylic with finely ground pigments, formulated directly for spraying with an airbrush — it can be sprayed straight from the 17 ml dropper bottle, with no obligatory thinning. It dries to a matte finish.

Wood does not come from a single coat

This is the most important thing to know: a convincing wood look does not come from a single coat. A uniform brown area looks like brown plastic, not like wood. Wood is created only by layering:

• Base — spray the area with this shade as the lighter base tone of the wood.
• Grain — once dry, draw a darker glaze or wash over the area with strokes along the grain; the paint flows into the engraving and creates an irregular pattern.
• Dry brush — lightly pick out edges, raised areas and worn spots with a lighter shade.
• Unifying — even out any transitions with a thin glaze and knock the area back to matte.

Who the paint is for

For builders of ships, aircraft from the early days of aviation, dioramas and figures — everywhere you need wood that does not look like plastic. It also serves as a base layer under more advanced wood imitation techniques.

Safety: when spraying, make sure there is enough ventilation and protect your airways with a respirator, ideally working in an extraction booth. Keep out of the reach of children.
