What the color is for

Dwarf Skin is a flesh tone from the Xpress Color acrylic line by Vallejo. It aims at faces, hands and other uncovered parts of figures, that is exactly where it is most visible whether a figure has depth. The name refers to fantasy subjects, but the flesh tone itself will serve just as well on historical figures.

How the Xpress Color line works

The paint has a thin consistency and once applied it draws into the hollows by itself. In wrinkles, under the nose, around the eyes and in the folds between fingers it therefore darkens, whereas on the forehead, the cheekbones and the backs of the hands it stays thin and light. One coat thus creates both the base color and the shading at once. The paint is semi-transparent, so the result depends on the ground: the lighter the base, the brighter the final tone.

Application tips

• It is applied with a brush; the paint is ready to use and does not have to be thinned.
• Shake the container properly before work, as the pigment settles to the bottom.
• Work on a light base, best of all a white or light gray one.
• Load plenty of paint and lead it in one stroke, as going over a tacky area repeatedly will smear the shadow.
• Draw the surplus built up in an eye socket or under the chin off with a dry brush before the paint has dried.
• The light places can still be lifted once dry with a thin coat of a lighter tone.

A container of paint as described is supplied. A figure, brushes, a ground and thinner are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. For thinning, cleaning the tools and storage, follow the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging.
