In 1:72 a helicopter instrument panel covers less than a fingernail and a single dial is about the size of a poppy seed. That is why pre-coloured panels are a technique of their own: the colour is printed on film and the layers are stacked, because no brush will draw that pattern. The printing pays off at the larger sizes — layered panels for rotary-wing subjects are made in quarter scale and are gathered in helicopter instrument panels.
A 1:72 cockpit is therefore lifted a different way: harnesses, pedals and side consoles in thin photo-etched brass, which sit in 1:72 helicopter photo-etch. The airframes they go into are in 1:72 helicopter kits.
