A typical set combines photo-etched brass for radiator grilles, tool clamps and mudguards with resin or 3D printed parts wherever volume is needed, such as crates, equipment and sections of armament. Larger packages add a full turret and hull interior, and sometimes a half-figure driver. Because all of it is laid out for one specific moulding, the parts drop into place without lengthy test-fitting.
A set is bought for a boxing, not for a type of tank. Titles therefore name the exact kit the parts suit, because the same Sherman from two sources is broken down differently. Scale must always agree.
Exterior sets improve what is visible at first glance and barely lengthen the build. Interior sets and complete upgrades assume open hatches and can easily double the hours at the bench — but they reward you with a model people stop to look at.
For a first attempt, take a smaller exterior set: a few etched parts, a little resin, no complicated folded assemblies. Competition builders go straight for the full fit with interior.
