The set from the British brand PERRY Miniatures is built so that a whole battle can be played out of a single box. It holds two generals, one hundred forty-five infantrymen, twelve riders, eighteen artillerymen and four guns, that is, over one hundred seventy figures in 28 mm scale all together. With them come a farmstead with board walls, more than one hundred twenty centimeters of fencing, bases for all the units, rules for the tabletop game, a uniform guide and flags.
The figures are enough for eight infantry regiments, four for the Union and four for the Confederacy, further for two guns with crews for each side, one cavalry detachment for each side and one general each. The farmstead and the fencing are not mere scenery: in the game they serve as objectives and as the obstacles the fighting leans on.
The American Civil War of the years 1861 to 1865 was the first conflict in which a mass army armed with rifled muskets met the old tactics of closed ranks. From there comes both its terrible rate of loss and the typical picture of its battlefield: long lines of infantry, artillery batteries on the high ground and cavalry used mainly for reconnaissance.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
