Kit of the iconic AT-AT (All Terrain Armored Transport) from the world of Star Wars in 1:144 scale. The designation Revell-Bandai hides an essential piece of information: it is a kit from the Japanese company Bandai that Revell distributes in Europe. Bandai is famous for extremely accurate snap-fit kits: the parts are molded in colored plastic, they fit together with minimal play and no glue or paint is needed to build them. The kit has 161 parts, the finished model reaches a height of 160 mm and the recommended age is from 10 years. The box also contains pilot figures for the cockpit; the head and the legs of the model are movable, so the AT-AT can be set in a dynamic pose. The markings are applied with stickers or decals.
The AT-AT is a four-legged armored walker of the Imperial ground forces, a giant metal elephant with an armored body, a cockpit in the head and heavy lasers. It was written into film history for good by the battle on the planet Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back, where these colossi advance across the icy plain toward the rebel base and the rebels can only stop them by tangling their legs with cables. It is exactly that scene that made the AT-AT one of the best-known icons of the whole saga.
The build needs no glue; the parts snap together. Even so, it is recommended to snip the parts off the sprues with cutters and to level the remains of the gates with a file or a knife, so that no white burr is left on an edge; with colored plastic that is the one thing that can spoil the impression. Anyone who wants to go further can still paint the model: the colored plastic makes an excellent base and a restrained panel wash in the engraved lines and gentle dry weathering are enough to make the machine look as if it has crossed an icy plain. Do not over-tighten the joints and keep an eye on the center of gravity when posing it, because a four-legged model has to stand steadily.
