An injection-molded plastic kit from the French brand Heller. The set contains about 124 parts and the finished body measures roughly 153 mm. The molds are modified so that an opening for a fabric sliding roof panel appears in the roof, and the box also holds engine parts. The doors and the lids can be fitted open or closed, and the decal sheet offers several period forms.
The Renault 4 was introduced in 1961 as a practical answer to the Citroën 2CV. It brought front-wheel drive, torsion bar suspension and a fifth door at a time when that was far from the rule on small cars. It was built until 1994 and spread around the world as the car of postmen, gendarmes and families alike. The TL and GTL forms were among the most common, and the fabric roof was a popular option.
Spray the body with a primer and then a gloss coat, or the decals will not settle. The chrome trim comes out well when it is drawn on with a fine brush over dried paint. Assemble and paint the interior and the engine bay before you close the shell up. The glazing is helped by masking with tape, and the fabric panel deserves a matte shade different from the body.
The set contains unassembled and unpainted parts. Paints, glue and other accessories are not supplied, unless stated otherwise.
