About product

Photo-etched details for the T-34-85 model 1944, the first part

This add-on set in 1:35 scale is intended for modelers who want to replace thick-walled plastic shapes on a kit of the Soviet medium tank with finer metal elements. The designation first part refers to the fact that the manufacturer has divided the detailing of this type into two separately sold units. The package does not contain the hull or the turret; it assumes a finished model onto which the parts are fitted.

The real subject: the T-34-85 model 1944

The T-34-85 came about by rearming the proven T-34 with an 85 mm gun. The essential change was a new, larger turret for three men, thanks to which the commander could at last devote himself to observing the battlefield instead of serving the weapon. The machines of 1944 were built in several plants in parallel, so the shapes of their castings, the hatches and the stowage of the tools all differ. It is exactly these differences that make the T-34-85 a rewarding subject for builders who like comparing period photographs.

Procedure and painting

Free the metal parts of grease before joining them and bend them over a sharp edge or in a simple bending jig. They hold best with cyanoacrylate glue applied in a really small amount. The surface calls for a priming coat, otherwise the paint adheres badly to smooth metal. Soviet green comes out well when you lighten it on the horizontal surfaces and then bring out the seams with a dark filling shade.

Suitable for

  • builders of Soviet vehicles of the Second World War
  • modelers who want to refine the fenders and the grilles
  • diorama scenes with tank-riding infantry
  • more experienced hands used to fine work

Paints, glue and the kit to carry them are not in the package.

FAQ

It is not. It is an accessory that is fitted to a finished T-34-85 kit in 1:35 scale, which has to be obtained separately.

The manufacturer has divided the detailing of this tank into two separately sold packages. The extent of each of them does not follow from the name.

Working with small metal parts calls for tweezers, a sharp knife and calm. We recommend it rather to modelers who already have several kits behind them.
