An injection-molded plastic kit of a German heavy anti-tank gun, that is, of a weapon and not of a vehicle. 1:35 scale, manufacturer Trumpeter. A weapon of 12.8 cm caliber is imposing even in model form and works well as the centerpiece of a diorama with a crew and ammunition.
The development of this weapon grew out of the need to stop Soviet heavy tanks at ranges where ordinary anti-tank guns were not enough. The resulting weapon was exceptionally effective and had a very flat trajectory, so a hit was likely even when the range was misjudged. The price was the weight and the dimensions, which made it more of a dug-in defensive weapon than a mobile gun. Two companies submitted designs and they differed mainly in the solution of the carriage; this kit captures the Krupp version. The same caliber also appeared in the armament of the Jagdtiger heavy tank destroyer, so the model complements a collection of German late-war anti-tank equipment well. Only a small number were built.
Assemble the carriage on a flat surface and keep checking that all the bearing points sit in the same plane. Paint the long barrel before you seat it and watch that it lines up with the axis of the weapon. A late German camouflage scheme with brown and green over a dark yellow base is a good choice. A layer of soil on the bottom of the carriage, ammunition crates and camouflage branches over the position will add credibility to the scene.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
