The 1:35 MK A Whippet WWI Medium Tank is a kit of the British medium tank of the First World War with a well worked-out fighting compartment.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the British Mark A medium tank of the First World War, in 1:35 scale. The set has a well worked-out surface with fine riveting, a broken-up fighting compartment, individual track links, machine guns as separate parts and photo-etched brackets and hooks. The hatches can be built open or closed. The manufacturer took care that the build should not be needlessly fragmented into hundreds of parts.
The Whippet came about as a complement to the slow heavy tanks. While those broke through the trench positions, the faster medium tank was meant to push through the gap and operate in depth. The vehicle had two separate engines, each driving one track, and steering was done by changing their speeds. The crew and the armament were carried in a fixed superstructure at the rear, so the tank had no rotating turret and fire was delivered from several ports. For its day it was exceptionally fast.
Finish the running gear and the inside of the superstructure before you close the assembly. Build the track links up in longer runs and let them set with a natural sag. The riveting comes out when a dark wash runs around the rivets and the heads are lightened slightly. Vehicles of the First World War tended to be muddy right up over the running gear, so the weathering can be strong.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
