An accessory set of American field rations in 1:35 scale: two Type K packs and three Type C cans.
Responsibility details are not available.
The American army took two entirely different meals to the front. The Type K pack was a light cardboard box for a single course, it existed in a breakfast, a dinner and a supper variant, and a soldier carried it straight in the pocket of his blouse. The Type C can weighed more but offered a hot meal from a tin warmed over a fire or on the exhaust of a vehicle. Empty boxes and cans then lay around every bivouac, and in period photographs they are visible almost everywhere.
According to the contents listing the set holds two pieces of the Type K ration and three pieces of the Type C. This very combination is enough to fill a box on a fender, to make a small pile beside a tent or to bring the floor of a cargo compartment to life, where a view of emptiness shows most of all.
Small items of this kind decide the credibility of a scene more than a perfectly finished engine under an open hood. First wash the castings and let them dry, then undercoat them with a dark layer and lay the light areas on from above, so the shadow stays in the folds. Suggest the lettering with a thin brush or a leftover decal; at this enlargement a hint is enough. Arrange them irregularly, as military untidiness never looks orderly. Before you reach for glue, lay the pieces out dry and try several arrangements: stacked in a box they look quite different from being tossed down by a vehicle wheel, and each variant tells something else about the scene. Keep the rest in reserve, as it will come in useful at any time later.
