An injection-molded plastic kit of the Chinese Type 052D guided missile destroyer in 1:350 scale from Bronco. The model represents the particular ship Kunming with pennant number 172, that is the first ship of this series to be completed. It is a new mold and an extensive photo-etched set is part of the box, covering the railing and the complex array of radar antennas amidships. The model is built as a full hull only; the kit does not allow a waterline version.
The destroyer Kunming entered service in March 2014 as the first ship of the Type 052D. The ship has vertical launch cells for guided missiles forward and aft and an angular superstructure with the flat antennas of a phased-array radar. The Type 052D is a full multirole ship for air and surface defense and forms the core of the escort of Chinese strike groups.
Fit the photo-etched railing only once the hull and the superstructure are painted, glue it with cyanoacrylate and shape every part to the outline of the deck first. The antennas are thin and easily bent out of shape, so leave them for last. Spray the gray hull finish with an airbrush in thin coats and mask the waterline boundary with tape. Pick out the decks with a fine wash, and a darker shade below the superstructure will give the model depth.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, a stand and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
