1:350 USS George Washington (SSBN-598) is a plastic kit of the first American operational ballistic missile submarine in 1:350 scale from the maker Mikromir, with photo-etched parts and decals for the whole five units of the class.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:350 scale, the Mikromir part number 350-017 from the Ukrainian maker. It is a short and straightforward project: the hull is split into two halves and the rest is made up of small plastic and photo-etched parts. The sheet of decals carries the names and numbers of all five units of the class, from SSBN-598 to SSBN-602, so you choose which boat you build.
The George Washington was the first American operational ballistic missile submarine. It came about in a practical way: into the partly built attack submarine Scorpion the designers inserted a section with sixteen missile silos in two rows of eight. Beside the missiles it carried six torpedo tubes of 533 millimeter caliber. It was launched in June 1959 and entered service at the end of the same year. In November 1960 it set out on the first deterrent patrol with Polaris A-1 missiles and thereby began the era of the naval leg of nuclear deterrence.
The most important thing is the seam on the longitudinal joint of the hull. Fill it, sand it through several grits and check it under a primer coat, because a smooth black finish will emphasize every unevenness. Glue the photo-etched parts, especially the railings and the platforms of the tower, with cyanoacrylate glue and fit them only after the hull has been sprayed. Mask the dividing line between the black upper surface and the red bottom with a narrow strip of tape. Prepare a stand in advance - a cylindrical hull will not stand up by itself.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
