An injection-molded plastic kit of the American amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD-1) in 1:350 scale from the manufacturer Trumpeter. The model captures a modern helicopter assault ship with a flat full-length flight deck. The package contains richly detailed plastic parts including the superstructures, the armament and the accompanying equipment; it is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
USS Wasp (LHD-1) is the lead ship of the class of the same name of amphibious assault ships of the US Navy. The ship was launched in 1987 and entered service in 1989. She serves to land Marine units: thanks to her flat flight deck and hangar she carries helicopters, tiltrotors and short takeoff and vertical landing aircraft. She thus combines the function of a helicopter carrier and an assault ship with the ability to launch landing craft. During her career she has taken part in military and humanitarian operations alike.
The hull can be built as a full hull on a stand or as a waterline model. Use liquid cement for plastic on the plastic joints. The radars, cranes and fine features of the superstructures call for care; if you reach for photo-etched accessories, bond them with super glue. Spray the extensive flight deck with an airbrush over a primer and add the deck markings and landing spots from the decals. Paint the enclosed helicopters and other equipment separately; weathering and light washes will give the deck realistic wear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
