A set of six starter crank handles for German vehicles of the Second World War in 1:48 scale. This is not a vehicle model but a small accessory: the parts are made by 3D printing from resin, so they have sharp edges and a fine surface of a kind that cannot be drawn out of a mold at shapes this small.
A hand crank turned the engine over through the flywheel when the electric starter failed or the battery was flat. Crews carried it pushed into brackets on a fender, on the side of the cargo bed or inside the vehicle, and they reached for it more often than one would expect today, above all in the frosts on the Eastern Front. It is exactly such small touches that turn a tidy model into a machine somebody used day after day.
The parts are separated from the print supports with a sharp knife or a fine saw, and the remainder only needs sanding down. They are glued with super glue, and epoxy holds as well. Before painting it pays to wash the surface in lukewarm water with dish soap and let it dry thoroughly, so that the resin takes the primer well. The metal shaft stands out when a graphite pencil is drawn lightly over a dark base.
The set is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a model in its own right. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
