Aber 1:72 – a set of eight turned metal barrels of the American 12.7 mm Browning M2 machine gun for the P-47 Thunderbolt replaces the plastic barrels in the wings of the fighter.
Responsibility details are not available.
A metal detail accessory from the Polish manufacturer Aber in 1:72 scale. The package contains eight turned metal barrels of the American 12.7 mm Browning M2 heavy machine gun, that is, a complete set for both wings of the P-47 Thunderbolt fighter. It is not an aircraft kit but a replacement for the plastic barrels, which at a small scale are always too thick and deform easily once the parting line has been removed.
The P-47 Thunderbolt was a single-engined American fighter with a radial engine and a turbocharger, which in the Second World War served as an escort fighter and as a feared ground-attack aircraft. Its standard armament was eight 12.7 mm Browning M2 wing machine guns, four in each wing, with the barrels characteristically staggered as they emerge from the leading edge. It is exactly this staggered arrangement that makes a big visual difference on a model, and metal barrels handle it better than plastic.
Cut off the plastic barrels as close to the leading edge as possible, carefully redrill the holes with a matching bit and glue the metal barrels in with super glue. It pays to watch the symmetry of the projection on both wings, ideally against the drawing in the kit instructions. Degrease the brass and use a primer, otherwise the paint will not hold on the metal; the barrels can also be left in a metallic tone and merely darkened with a wash.
This is a detail accessory, not an aircraft model. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
