Three sanding pads of clear acrylic in three widths, large, medium and small, together with self-adhesive abrasive papers. Acrylic is more flexible than metal, so it adapts slightly to a curve, while at the same time being stiff enough not to copy unevenness the way a soft sponge does. It is precisely this compromise between a hard plate and a flexible sponge that makes an acrylic pad a good tool for shaped faces.

Three widths, one grit

The widest pad covers an ordinary face, the medium one suits narrower panels and the narrowest reaches between details and into joints. The 1200 grit is a finishing grade: it practically removes no material any more, it only smooths away the marks of the previous step.

How to work with them

• Stick the paper onto a clean surface; it will not hold on dust and shifts on the first stroke.
• Guide the pad on its whole face and with a smooth stroke.
• Clean the part before this step, as a grain from a coarser paper will make a scratch.
• Replace a clogged paper; a blocked abrasive burnishes the surface instead of cutting it.

Who it is for

The set is for modelers who finish shaped faces before painting. The line comes in several grits, so the whole procedure from coarse leveling to smoothing can be put together. Acrylic sanding pads also go well together with rigid sanding plates: a plate levels a flat face, a pad finishes a shape.

Do not breathe in the sanding dust from plastic and resin; work with extraction or at least with a respirator.
