The smallest of the forms the MHU-141M munitions trailer is made in, the version with a bed. A resin casting in 1:72 scale for small airfield scenes.
Responsibility details are not available.
In 1:72 scale a whole apron fits onto one base. The aircraft takes up only a few dozen square centimeters here and the surface that is left calls out to be filled. The MHU-141M trailer with a flat bed is ideal for that purpose, because at a small size it does not overshadow the main model and yet it says at once that work is going on around the machine. Historically it was an ordinary towed means at American airfields, used to move material between the stores and the individual stations.
Even at this size the casting keeps the drawing of the frame and the cross members. The build includes several separate wheels, a drawbar and a flat load plate. Because the material is stronger than plastic, the trailer will even stand being held with your fingers while it is set up on a base.
It would seem that a smaller model will be simpler. The opposite is true. In 1:72 the components have dimensions counted in single millimeters; breaking a thin axle or losing a wheel in the carpet is the work of a moment, and without fine-jawed tweezers and magnification the work goes miserably. Anyone building only their second or third model would do better to get a trailer like this in a larger scale, or to choose a photo-etched sheet set, where the parts are flat and hold together in a fret. This set belongs in the hands of a modeler who already knows how to work with millimeter castings and wants an airfield peopled with equipment rather than empty. The reward is a striking comparison of scale: it is only next to a low trailer that it becomes clear how large the machine standing on the apron really is.
