A set of stencils 1:48 for spraying the camouflage of the Israeli F-16C, which serves under the name Barak. It covers large continuous areas of the airframe and holds a clean dividing line between them.
Responsibility details are not available.
The name Barak, that is lightning, is carried in the Israeli Air Force by the single-seat F-16C version. Against the older examples it was given a more powerful engine, a radar able to track several targets at once and a wider choice of external stores. Israel did not use the type as a pure interceptor: combat experience led to the same aircraft performing tasks against ground targets as well as air patrols, and the machines were therefore touched by modifications practically without a break. The silhouette with its slender fuselage and large canopy with no frame is among the most easily recognized of all.
The package carries cut stencils matching the shapes of the camouflage fields. Application proceeds in coats, with the finished areas covered before the next shade. The sprayed result has a uniform texture over the whole area, which matters on the large smooth parts of the F-16, because every irregularity stands out there more than on the busy surface of a propeller aircraft.
It is not so much about fine motor control as about forethought. The builder has to work out in advance in what order the shades will go, where the seams between the stencils will be and when he will let the finish cure. A mistake in the order is put right by spraying the whole part again. Anyone who does not want to deal with such a plan and is content with a simpler task will reach for a model in a single-color finish with decal markings. A camouflage scheme does not offer that shortcut.
The stencils are laid onto a cured finish. Neither a kit nor paints are enclosed.
