The Flyhawk photo-etched set with the accommodation ladder of Japanese ships in 1:700 scale adds a faithful lowered side stairway to the side of a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not a ship kit but a photo-etched detail accessory. The set holds brass photo-etched parts for building a faithful accommodation ladder, that is, the lowered side stairway with landings and railings that the warships of the Imperial Japanese Navy carried. This slender feature gives the side of a model in 1:700 scale a realistic look that plastic cannot capture.
The accommodation ladder served for the crew and for guests to board and leave from boats at the side of a ship at anchor. It was made up of a stringer, intermediate landings and railings, and it was raised to the side when the ship put to sea. It is exactly its fine lattice structure that is among the favorite details of faithful builders.
Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface and bend both the stairway and the railings carefully to the drawing. Glue them with cyanoacrylate glue in small drops and watch that the angle of the lowered ladder is right. Degrease them before painting, go over them with primer and paint them in a naval gray or in the wood of the treads.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base model, glue, paints and other parts are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
