Careful: this is NOT a kit. You are buying only a sheet of decals from the Japanese maker Studio27 in 1:24 scale. To be able to use it, you must already own (or buy) the Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 plastic kit from Fujimi, because the decals are designed exactly to the shapes of its body. The sheet holds the racing livery of the car of the German stable Black Falcon with race number 19 from the 2012 season.

The real subject and why such sheets are bought

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is a car with an utterly unmistakable feature: doors that open upward, the gull wings. It is a deliberate tribute to the legendary 300 SL Gullwing of the 1950s and on a model it is the most striking detail of the whole shape. The GT3 version was a customer racing special bought by dozens of teams all over the world, and that is exactly why so many different sheets exist for it. The kit from Fujimi offers only one or two liveries, but a collector usually wants one particular car of one particular team. Black Falcon is one of the most successful stables that entered the SLS: in 2013 it won the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring with it (the very first overall Mercedes victory in this race) and under the Abu Dhabi by Black Falcon banner it repeatedly dominated the 24 Hours of Dubai.

Do not confuse the Black Falcon sheets

• This sheet means No. 19, the year 2012.
• A separate sheet exists for Black Falcon No. 18, Monza 2014.
• And also for Black Falcon No. 19, Monza 2014, the same number but a different year and a different race.

So check both the year and the race number before ordering, so that you do not complete a different car at home than the one you wanted. Other SLS GT3 liveries were made as well.

How to apply the decals so that they look like paint

• Decals belong on gloss clear coat only. On a matte surface air gets under the film and the decal silvers, which is the most common mistake of all and can no longer be repaired.
• Large sponsor markings on the curved sides and the hood call for decal softener, so that the film settles without folds.
• Once it is dry, go over the body with clear coat and polish it, as the edges of the decals then disappear and the wet look of a racing car appears.
• The color of the body under the decals has to match. The sheet does not cover the whole area, the rest you paint in yourself with model paints.

This is a standalone decal sheet. The kit, paints, clear coat, softener and glue are not included in the package.
