What you have in front of you is a sheet of water-slide decals from the maker Studio27 in 1:24 scale. No plastic, no parts: this is NOT a kit, these are strictly markings. The model of the car, the BMW Z4 kit from Fujimi, has to be owned, otherwise the sheet has nowhere to go. Such sheets are bought for one reason: there are one or two liveries in the box of a kit, but the Z4 GT3, as a customer car, started with dozens of teams. A collector wants a particular car from a particular race, and the kit maker does not put that one in the box.

Team Russia, Silverstone and the ELMS

ELMS is the abbreviation for the European Le Mans Series, the European endurance series held in the spirit of Le Mans, where GT category cars start alongside prototypes. The car from this sheet, the BMW Z4 GT3 with number 78 and the designation Team Russia, was entered in the ELMS in the 2014 season in cooperation with the British Barwell stable; the crew was made up of Jonny Cocker, Timur Sardarov and Leo Machitski. The sheet captures the appearance of the car from Silverstone, the British circuit that is the home of Formula 1 and on which the historically first race of the F1 world championship was run in 1950. The fast, flowing corners of Silverstone test the aerodynamics of a GT3 car like few other courses.

Applying the decals step by step

First gloss clear coat on the whole body, and only then the decals. On a matte surface air is held under the film and the decal silvers: a silver rim forms around the artwork which can no longer be repaired. The sides of the Z4 are rounded, so reach for decal softener for the large sponsor markings, as without it the film will not settle and will make folds. Once it is dry comes clear coat, so that the edge of the decal cannot be told under a finger, and finally polishing for a wet shine. Do not forget that the sheet will not cover the whole body: the remaining area has to be sprayed with paint that matches the artwork in color.
