About product

Studio27 1:24 decal sheet, Porsche 962C From A No. 27, JSPC 1988

Let us clear it up right at the start: this is not a kit. It is a decal sheet from the Japanese Studio27 in 1:24 scale, the markings alone, no plastic parts. The basis has to be your own Hasegawa Porsche 962 kit. The model is built, sprayed and the decals come last of all.

The championship-winning car of the Japanese JSPC

The JSPC, the Japanese sports prototype championship, was the Japanese counterpart of European Group C, a separate, densely packed racing world with teams, sponsors and liveries of its own that a European never saw. The high point of the season was the 1000 km race at Fuji. And it was in the 1988 season that the title was fought out by a Porsche 962C with race number 27 in the From A colors with the driver Hideki Okada. From A was a Japanese classified magazine with job offers, a sponsor that nobody in a European paddock would have thought of.

The Porsche 956/962 was the most successful endurance car of its era and the absolute dominant force of Group C. The key thing, though, is that it was a customer car: Porsche sold it to private teams all over the world, so the same silhouette raced in dozens of color schemes. A kit from the box offers one or two of them, and that is why sheets like this one are created, so that a collector can build a particular car from a particular race.

How to go about the decals

  • They are applied exclusively to gloss clear coat. On a matte surface air stays under the film and the decal starts to silver, the quickest way to spoil a finished model.
  • On the curved hood of a prototype use decal softener; without it large markings will not settle and will make folds.
  • A spray of clear coat and polishing gives the surface depth and hides the edges of the films.
  • You have to spray the color of the body yourself, as the sheet covers only the markings, not the whole area of the car.

Who the sheet is for

For modelers who have the Hasegawa Porsche 962 kit and want to turn it into the championship-winning car of the Japanese 1988 season. Other Porsche 962 liveries exist as well, and they can be built as a series.

Only decals are included in the package. The kit, paints, clear coats, softener and glue are not, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. This is a standalone decal sheet. You have to get the Porsche 962 model from Hasegawa separately, as the decals are applied to a finished, sprayed model.

The Japanese sports prototype championship, the Japanese counterpart of Group C which ran parallel with the European world championship. It had sponsors and liveries of its own which never appeared in Europe; the high point was the 1000 km race at Fuji.

The Porsche 962C in the From A colors with race number 27 took the title in the JSPC 1988 season; behind the wheel was Hideki Okada.

Because a kit offers one or two liveries, while the Porsche 962 as a customer car raced with dozens of teams. A sheet lets you build exactly the car you want.
