About product

Honda Civic EG6 Castrol No. 76 / 77, National Saloon Car Cup 1993, 1:24 decals (Studio27, for Hasegawa)

A sheet of water-slide decals from Studio27 in 1:24 scale, prepared for the Honda Civic EG6 kit from Hasegawa. This is not a kit: the model of the car, paints and clear coats are not included in the package. The sheet covers two cars of the team, No. 76 and No. 77, so from one purchase you can build a pair for the display case or choose which car appeals to you more.

The real subject

The fifth generation Civic, known among fans by the code EG6, is an icon of the 1990s: a light, agile front-wheel drive hatchback with a high revving engine. Exactly the type of car that can trouble cars with considerably more power in the corners, and that is precisely why it became a favorite weapon of touring series all over the world. The National Saloon Car Cup was a British touring car series which raced with cars closer to production form than the prestigious British championship of the time; it also served as a springboard for drivers aiming higher. The sponsor of these Civics was Castrol, a maker of motor oils, whose green, white and red combination is among the most recognizable liveries in all of motorsport.

Tips for the application and painting

The base of the Castrol livery is largely white and white is harder to spray, as it needs a primer and several thin layers, otherwise the plastic shows through. The sheet does not cover the whole body, so the shade of the paint under the decals has to match the color of the printing, otherwise the transition will show. Apply the decals always to gloss clear coat; on a matte one air is trapped under the film and the decal starts to silver, which is the most common mistake on racing models. The fenders, sills and rear pillars of the Civic are rounded, so decal softener pays off. Go over the finished model with clear coat and polish it, as the edges of the films disappear and the body gains a wet, factory gloss.

Who the sheet is for

  • For fans of Japanese touring cars and of the legendary Civic EG6.
  • For modelers who want to build a pair of team cars, No. 76 and No. 77, from one sheet.
  • For collectors of racing liveries of the 1990s and of the Castrol colors.

The package contains decals only. The kit, paints, glue, clear coats and softener are not part of the delivery.

FAQ

It is not. This is a decal sheet only. You have to get the Honda Civic EG6 model in 1:24 scale separately, as the sheet is prepared for the kit from Hasegawa.

The sheet covers the cars with numbers 76 and 77. If you want both cars in the display case, you need two kits, as the decals for both are on one sheet.

On a matte surface air stays under the film and the decal visually silvers. Apply them over gloss clear coat, use softener on curved areas and secure everything with clear coat at the end.

The livery rests mostly on white, which has to be sprayed before the decals. White covers badly, so use a primer and several thin layers.
