A set of water-slide decals from Studio27 in 1:24 scale for the competition BMW 2002 from the Tour de France Automobile 1971. Straight to the point: this is not a kit. You are not buying plastic parts, but the markings alone, as you have to own the BMW 2002 model from Hasegawa and the sheet is prepared exactly for its body. Fall and Wood are not sponsors: they are the names of the crew, the driver Tony Fall and the co-driver Mike Wood.
The BMW 2002 is the car with which BMW began to be BMW in the 1970s: a small, light, angular sedan with a sporting engine and handling that made it a cult classic to this day. In the tii version with fuel injection it was a usable competition machine and essentially a predecessor of the later racing legend, the M3. The Tour de France Automobile was meanwhile one of the strangest events of its time, as it combined circuit races with speed stages and runs across the whole of France. A hybrid between a rally and a circuit race which no longer exists in its original form today. The Fall and Wood crew lined up here with a two-liter BMW against far more powerful competition.
The basis that decides the result: decals are applied to gloss clear coat. A matte surface is porous, air is trapped under the film and the edges turn silver, the most common mistake which you will not put right afterwards. The procedure is paint, gloss clear coat, decals. Around the fenders, the pillars and the grille of the car reach for decal softener, so that a marking wraps around the shape and settles into the gaps. Because this is a competition car, it makes sense not to leave it polished to a shine: seal the finished markings with clear coat and only then add the dust of French roads, smears and a layer in the wheel arches. Weathering always only after the clear coat, not over bare decals. And remember that the sheet does not cover the whole body, as you have to mix the basic shade yourself and it has to match the decals, otherwise the transition will be noticeable.
The package contains decals only. The model of the car, paints, gloss and clear coat, softener and weathering products are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
